Md. Grants $400K To Help Grantsville Cheesemaker

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Garrett County is getting another cheese manufacturing plant.

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development says it has approved a $400,000 conditional grant to help the town of Grantsville renovate a former butcher shop for operation by High Country Creamery and Market.

The agency says the creamery will also operate a deli and cafe.

The site previously housed Yoder's Country Meats, which closed in 2005.

Garrett County already has one renowned cheesemaker, the Firefly Farms Creamery and Market in nearby Accident. That business specializes in goat cheeses.
