Md. Calls Revamped Health Care Exchange A Success
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is calling the state's revamped health-insurance exchange a success as the second enrollment period hits a milestone.
Officials said Friday that nearly 80,000 people enrolled in private plans from Nov. 15 through Thursday, the deadline for obtaining coverage starting Jan. 1. The 90-day enrollment period continues through Feb. 15.
The number who enrolled in private plans in the first 34 days nearly matches the approximately 81,000 who enrolled in private plans during the exchange's problem-plagued first year. The first enrollment period lasted six months.
O'Malley commended those who he says are working to make the rebuilt network successful and ultimately keep more Marylanders healthy.
The exchange reports nearly 57,000 Medicaid enrollments through Thursday. That brings total enrollments to nearly 137,000.
