Md. Bill Would Require Reporting Of Dead Bodies
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Two Republican state lawmakers from Washington County want to make it crime not to report a dead body or death.
The Herald-Mail reports that the bill sponsored by Sen. Christopher Shank and Del. Neil Parrott got a hearing Tuesday in Annapolis.
They say the measure was prompted by the death in August of Kenneth Flook, 40, of Hagerstown. Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore says Flook died at the house of a friend who then dumped the body several miles away.
Mullendore says the state medical examiner's office couldn't determine the cause of Flook's death.
The bill would require a person with personal knowledge of a death or a dead body to notify law enforcement within four hours. Violation could bring a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
