Md. Announces Rare Birth Of 5 Cubs To 1 Black Bear
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says it has documented the state's first known birth of five black bears in a single litter.
The Cumberland Times-News reports that workers checking bear dens found the cubs with their mother Tuesday in the Green Ridge State Forest in Allegany County.
Bear Project Leader Harry Spiker says Maryland black bears average three cubs per litter.
The agency posted a YouTube video of the cubs online.
