Major Announcement On Embattled Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh Set For Thursday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The attorney for embattled Baltimore City Mayor Catherine Pugh promised a major announcement on her future Thursday.

"At that time, I will be in a position to tell you what her intentions are," Steve Silverman told reporters gathered outside Pugh's Ashburton home.

He said he would hold a press conference at his office in downtown Baltimore but declined to say whether the mayor would be resigning or whether she would even be present.

He did say there would be no developments at the mayor's house where supporters held a prayer vigil Wednesday night.

"I would ask you consider not being here tomorrow," Silverman said. "I am not going to be here. I ask you to give her that consideration."

Silverman's update came after a meeting with Pugh that lasted more than an hour.

Mayor Pugh has been under fire over book deals with organizations doing business with the city that have netted her almost $800,000.

Last week, the FBI raided her homes and City Hall among other locations. The mayor has not been criminally charged.

She has been on medical leave since April 1st. Last Friday, her lawyer said she was not "lucid" enough to make any decisions on her future.

Acting Mayor Jack Young told WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren Wednesday the City was "moving forward" and he was not concerned about the uncertainty in the mayor's office.

If Pugh resigns, Young would become mayor until the general election in November 2020.

The acting mayor is scheduled to be in Detroit for a conference from Thursday through the weekend.
