Massachusetts-Lowell Beats UMBC 71-61

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Akeem Williams scored 30 points as Massachusetts-Lowell defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 71-61 on Saturday.
  
After trailing for much of the first half, Massachusetts-Lowell (8-15, 6-5 America East Conference) closed the half on a 12-4 run and led for the rest of the game. UMBC (8-16, 4-7) came within 54-50 with 5:20 to play, but the River Hawks responded with eight straight points to extend their lead to double digits.
  
Massachusetts-Lowell shot 54.3 percent from the field, went 9 of 14 from beyond the arc and hit 24 of 30 free throws. Williams hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range, going 7 of 9 from the field while knocking down 12 of 14 free throws. Antonio Bivins added 13 points for the River Hawks.
  
Rodney Elliott had 26 points for UMBC but the Retrievers shot just 32.8 percent from the field and 5-of-21 from 3-point range.
