Marylanders Prep For Another Round Of Snow

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Here we go again. Another round of snow is on the way for parts of Maryland. It could have a major impact on the roads Tuesday.

Meghan McCorkell with crews gearing up for when the first flakes fall.

It's the stuff many are tired of seeing, but like it or not, here it comes. City road crews are working hard to prep the streets with 12,000 tons of salt on hand.

Meantime, city residents prep their pantries--lines inside the Canton Safeway stretching on and on.

In Anne Arundel County, a fleet of heavy equipment is at the ready to tackle any accumulation on highways.

"It's when you start to get an inch or two an hour... The crews can really only make good progress once the storm has stopped," said David Buck, State Highway Administration.

While crews are gearing up for this latest storm, the aftermath of the blizzard is still evident across the region--taking a bite out of local budgets.

"This last storm was historic in terms of accumulation. It also is historic in what it cost Baltimore County," said Kevin Kamenetz, Baltimore County Executive.

The county budgeted $6 million for snow removal all winter, but the blizzard alone cost $9.4 million.

Officials say it costs $54,000 an hour to plow county roads; salting for an hour costs $109,000.

Still, some drivers say bring it on, as this white winter continues.

"I love this. I live for it. That's why I buy these trucks," said Walt Ayres, truck driver.

Governor Larry Hogan returned from a campaign trip two days early to be here ahead of the storm.
