Wind Chill Advisory In Effect: Big Chill Brings Single Digit Temps

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Bundle up, Baltimore! Maryland is seeing the coldest temperatures of the year so far.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

Temps drops to the single digits overnight with a northwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

"Very cold air is already in place and temps are going to crash even more overnight into the single digits," says Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram. "The combination of cold air and strong winds will generate low wind chills. Areas north and west of Baltimore could see wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero."

Advisory are in effect for: Anne Arundel; Calvert; Central and Southeast Howard; Charles; Northern Baltimore; Northwest Harford; Prince Georges; Southeast Harford; Southern Baltimore; St. Marys; Central and Eastern Allegany; Dorchester; Inland Worcester; Maryland Beaches; Somerset; Wicomico.

A Winter Storm Watch will also go into effect late Sunday night for areas west of Baltimore including:  Carroll; Central and Southeast Montgomery; Frederick; Northwest Howard; Northwest Montgomery; Washington; Extreme Western Allegany.

The advisory is set to expire early Monday morning.

On Sunday, the high will be 22 degrees and the low will be 15.

Clouds will increase later on Sunday night as moisture moves into the region. Snow will begin to accumulate early Monday AM for parts of the area, at least a couple of inches is expected.

"The wind will then shift out of the south and begin to filter in warmer air. This will cause the snow to transition to sleet/freezing rain, at times, until it gets warm enough for plain rain," says Ingram.
