Maryland Weather: Strong Storms Possible Tuesday; Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Expect some severe weather Tuesday around Maryland with the worst in the Baltimore and DC metro regions and east of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Baltimore metro region is under an enhanced risk for severe weather between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. with the peak of the storm around dinnertime.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the southern part of the state, including Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties, until 11 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for Prince George's County until 8 p.m. and Charles County until 8:15 p.m.

Damaging wind gusts and hail from scattered thunderstorms are possible, along with heavy downpours.

It is a cold front diving onto this very unstable air mass over the Mid-Atlantic that is to blame. Severe thunderstorm watches stretch from Virginia to Maine Tuesday afternoon.

In his weather blog. Marty Bass says people need to remain alert today about the weather.
