Maryland Toddler Killed During Ohio Visit Laid To Rest

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A 14-month-old Maryland boy killed during a Christmastime trip to Ohio has been laid to rest.

Cameron Beckford's family says he was buried Thursday in a private ceremony in Germantown, Maryland.

Cameron's mother, 24-year-old Dainesha Stevens, is charged in Franklin County, Ohio with child endangerment and evidence tampering. No one has been charged with killing the boy, whose body was found Dec. 31 in a Columbus-area creek.

Police say Stevens brought the boy and his sister from Frederick, Maryland, to Ohio during a trip to see a friend.

Stevens' attorney says she made up a story about leaving Cameron on a doorstep because she couldn't care for him and that was her way of asking for help.

An autopsy showed Cameron died of blunt-force trauma to his chest and abdomen.
