Maryland To Hold Recognition Of 50th Anniversary Of NCAA Champion Texas Western

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- In conjunction with Black History Month, the University of Maryland will have a recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the historic Texas Western University vs. the University of Kentucky 1966 National Championship basketball game held in Cole Field House on March 19, 1966.

The win by Texas Western, which featured a majority of African-American players, was considered ground breaking in defeating an all-white Adolph Rupp coached Kentucky team to capture the National Championship.

A panel discussion of this historic event will include former players like Orsten Artis, Louis Baudoin, Willie Cager, David Lattin, Nevil Shed and Willie Worsley from the 1966 National Championship Texas Western team. Hall of Fame broadcasting legend and 'Voice of the Maryland Terrapins' Johnny Holliday will host the event on Saturday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. prior to the Maryland vs Wisconsin game.
