Maryland To End Extra $300 In Unemployment Benefits To End July 3
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- With Maryland ending federal unemployment programs on July 3, many more Marylanders are expected to be soon looking for work.
"Hospitality, as an industry, has lost talent it is not gonna get back," Hotel Revival General Manager Donte Johnson said Wednesday. "There will be some people who are motivated to get back to work sooner. But, that doesn't change the fact that there are people who were sales managers at hotels two years ago who are real estate agents now. We were chefs and cooks two years ago. We're driving Uber now."
Johnson says the hotel is hiring a couple dozen positions, but they are significantly lower on staff than their pre-pandemic peak of 75 employees. To apply for jobs at Hotel Revival, click here.
"It's leadership positions. It's frontline positions," Johnson said of the range of positions the hotel has open.
Outback Steakhouse has a national hiring event. All of its Maryland locations are hiring, according to Canton proprietor Heather Merkel.
"What we really want is a positive attitude and reliability. Everything else can be taught," Merkel said.
The Maryland Workforce Exchange lists 221,369 current job openings, as of Wednesday. April 2021 figures show 181,434 Marylanders were unemployed, according to the Department of Labor.
The Maryland Workforce Exchange lists registered nurses as the position with the most job openings right now, with 7,093 current openings. Johns Hopkins Health System has 1,930 current openings, the most of any employer in the state, according to MWE.
