Maryland State Police Trooper's Car Struck By Driver

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Police says a trooper's car was hit while he was helping a motorist on I-495.

The Maryland State Police says troopers received a call Friday evening around 9 p.m. to help a motorist on the inner loop of I-495 at I-270. A trooper who arrived on scene parked behind the disabled vehicle and set up flares to warn approaching motorists as he and the vehicle's driver waited on a tow truck.

The Maryland State Police says while they were waiting the driver of a 2001 Toyota Corolla drove through the flares and hit the trooper's vehicle. The driver of the Corolla was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Maryland State Police says charges against the driver of the Corolla are pending.
