Some Maryland schools closed Tuesday, Jan. 27 as icy road conditions persist after winter storm

Maryland crews work to clear highways during bitterly cold weather

Several Maryland schools and universities will remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 27, after a winter storm brought snow and freezing rain to the state on Sunday.

Frigid temperatures are expected to continue this week, prompting challenges for road crews tasked with clearing snow.

Maryland received between 6 and 12 inches of snow on Sunday, followed by sleet and freezing rain. BWI Airport recorded a total of 11.3 inches of snow, the highest amount recorded since 2016.

A Cold Weather Advisory will remain in effect Monday evening through late Tuesday morning as temperatures are expected to stay in the lower teens to single digits overnight.
