Maryland Police Crash Involving State Trooper

LA PLATA, Md. (AP) — Maryland police say they are investigating a crash involving a state trooper in Charles County.

Police say Trooper Constance Davis was driving her marked patrol car eastbound on Smallwood Drive near Stone Avenue when she collided with a 2013 Chevy Malibu shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. Police say Davis's car then careened into a tree and both vehicles caught fire.

Police say Davis was able to escape the burning car and was transported to Shock Trauma for her injuries. The driver of the other car, who has not yet been identified, was freed from his vehicle and taken to Medstar Washington Center for treatment.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
