Maryland Officials Warn Of Coming Winter Storm, Urge Caution

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Highway officials in Maryland are warning drivers about potentially dangerous conditions in the state as another winter storm is set to move in.

Forecasts say the storm could bring up to a foot of snow in western Maryland beginning Saturday morning, and between 3 and 5 inches in other parts of the state. The snow is expected to turn into freezing rain and sleet in the afternoon.

The State Highway Administration says it's "on alert and preparing" for the weather. The agency says it didn't pre-treat roads Friday because salt brine freezes on contact in extremely cold temperatures.

Maryland State Police say drivers need to be particularly careful in western Maryland, saying driving conditions will be challenging at best throughout the day.
