Maryland National Guard Honors its Fallen Warriors

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — The Maryland National Guard is honoring 12 members who died while serving their country from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The event Sunday at Camp Fretterd in Reisterstown includes a wreath-laying ceremony.

Col. Charles Kohler says in a statement that the fallen warriors include Chief Warrant Officer William Ruth of Mount Airy. He was working at the Pentagon when terrorists crashed a hijacked airliner into the building in 2001.

They also include two soldiers who died while on active duty at military installations in Virginia and Georgia.

Five of those honored died in Iraq, or from injuries they suffered there, from 2005 through 2007.

The others died in Afghanistan, or from injuries they suffered there, from 2008 through 2012.
