Maryland House Speaker Announces Leadership Posts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones has announced leadership positions, and there are no changes in the top chairs of the seven standing committees.

Jones said Friday she's confident the right leadership is in place to work on priorities.

She says those include implementing recommendations from a commission on education, adding more than $2 billion for school construction and improving the lives of middle-class Marylanders.

Among the changes, Jones named Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes speaker pro tem, and Del. Eric Luedtke will be the House majority leader.

Del. Kathleen Dumais will be the vice chair of the Economic Matters Committee, as well as the chair of the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee.

Jones, a Democrat, was elected speaker by the chamber's 141 delegates, after longtime House Speaker Michael Busch died in April.
