Maryland Gun Licensing Process To Be Moved Online

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Starting in the new year, Maryland State Police have announced they will be conducting background checks online, instead of paper forms,  for those looking to purchase guns.

The online forms will begin for background checks starts January 1,  2017.

Under the current system, those who sought to buy a gun from a dealer would complete a paper form by hand, then send it to a dealer or a State Police barrack. The forms  which then was mailed or faxed to the Maryland State Police Licensing Division, which conducts background checks.

The forms have then been mailed or faxed to the Maryland State Police Licensing Division, which conducts background checks.

Our media partner, The Baltimore Sun, reports, with the new system, says those applying for a gun will conduct the entire process online through the Maryland State Police Licensing Portal, which is compatible with desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones.

State Police say the $10 application fee will remain the same and is payable by debit or credit card only.
