Maryland Delegate Ted Sophocleus Dies At 79
LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) — A Maryland delegate with a long history of public service has died at 79.
News outlets report Ted Sophocleus died Friday at a Baltimore hospital. The Anne Arundel County Democrat had surgery earlier this year after a neck injury, and took a brief leave of absence during the 2018 General Assembly session.
He was running for another term in the District 32 primary election.
Sophocleus was a pharmacist who was elected to the Anne Arundel County Council in 1982. He was appointed to a seat in the Maryland House of Delegates in 1993, and elected to his own seat in 1998. He served on the Appropriations Committee and was vice chair of the Health and Social Services Subcommittee.
Predeceased by one daughter, he's survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
