Maryland Child Rape Suspect Arrested In Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been arrested at a Knoxville motel on child sexual abuse and pornography charges.

The U.S. Marshals Service for the Eastern District of Tennessee said 41-year-old Mario Baez of North East, Maryland, is accused of repeatedly raping a 7-year-old girl for almost a year and photographing the act.

Charges include second-degree rape, sodomy, sexual abuse of a minor, child pornography, possession of child pornography, third-degree sexual offense, second-degree assault, fourth-degree sexual offense and second-degree child abuse.

A news release from the Marshals Service said Baez was seen entering the motel's main office and taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
