Maryland-based Dance Institute Moving Headquarters To NY

CATSKILL, N.Y. (AP) -- A dance institute and venue based in Maryland plans to move its headquarters to upstate New York, where it will build a new $4 million complex at a former Hudson Valley lumber yard.

The American Dance Institute of Rockville, Maryland, announced Tuesday that it will use a $500,000 economic development grant from New York state to transform the former Dunn Builders Supply in Catskill into a performance space and residence for up to 20 artists.

Institute officials told The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1SzFT7H ) the new location would allow the organization to expand a program that gives choreographers and dancers from around the country space and time to develop new works.

Construction on the property in Catskill, 110 miles north of New York City, will begin in May. The institute will leave Rockville after the 2016-17 season.
