Manslaughter Charge In Rock Climber's Death In Md. Park
GREEENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A Virginia rock climber has been indicted on a manslaughter charge, accused of killing a friend with a claw hammer at the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park in Maryland.
David DiPaolo of Bristow was to appear in federal court in Greenbelt on Thursday after being charged with voluntary manslaughter.
He's accused in the death of Geoffrey Farrar, 68, at the Carderock Recreation Area. Farrar was found on the trail on Dec. 28 bleeding from the head.
Police say his injuries were consistent with blows from a claw hammer found nearby. Police say the men were seen arguing and DiPaolo was seen running up the trail.
Authorities say DiPaolo told police they argued and he hit Farrar when Farrar choked him. Court records don't list a defense lawyer.
