Manny Machado Will Begin Four-Game Suspension Sunday, Drops Appeal

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Orioles will be without Manny Machado for the next four games as he is set to begin his suspension on Sunday.

Manny Machado will serve a four-game suspension for charging the mound against Kansas City Royal's starting pitcher Yordano Ventura after being hit by a 99 MPH fastball. Ventura has been known to hit marque players on opposing teams and has been scolded for it by a plethora of players throughout the MLB.

Buck Showalter told reporters that he didn't believe the suspension would be reduced and the decision was made to go ahead and get through the suspension now.

The Orioles will be without Manny Machado for the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, the makeup game against the Texas Rangers, and the 2 game interleague series against the San Diego Padres. By starting the suspension now, it guarantees that Machado will be available for the AL East series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yordano Ventura was able to get his suspension reduced by one game and will only miss one start.
