Management Flaws At Md. State Hospital Detailed
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland public health officials say a state-owned nursing home in Hagerstown was fined $150,000 for poor oversight of patient care that prompted the ouster of the facility's chief executive and two medical staff members.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released findings by the Office of Health Care Quality Friday, seven weeks after management changes were announced at the Western Maryland Hospital Center.
DHMH Chief Medical Officer Mona Gahunia says no patients were harmed by the deficiencies found in a routine survey last spring.
Gahunia says the facility's longtime director, Cynthia Pellegrino, was asked to resign, and that the chief medical officer and long-term care medical director were replaced.
The agency announced on June 24 that it had contracted with a private medical center to run the facility.
