Man With Infant Struck By Car Along Western Md. Highway

MCHENRY, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a man and an 11-month-old child are being treated at a Pennsylvania hospital after they were hit by a car while walking along a two-lane highway in far western Maryland.

A spokeswoman at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, told The Associated Press on Thursday that 26-year-old Dennis Garlitz Jr. of Accident is in critical condition. She says she can't divulge information about juvenile patients, citing privacy rules.

The Cumberland Times-News reports that police say Garlitz was pushing the child in a stroller along U.S. 219 in McHenry Wednesday afternoon when they were hit by a southbound Chevrolet Corvette.

Police say both were flown to the hospital.

Police say the crash is under investigation. They have identified the driver, but she hasn't been charged.
