Man With Dementia Charged In Shooting of Wife, Daughter

SPRING LAKE, N.C. (AP) -- Police have charged a 79-year-old North Carolina man who they say suffers from dementia with first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his wife and daughter.

Spring Lake Police Chief Troy McDuffie tells local news outlets that Bobby King has been charged in the shootings of 84-year-old Dorothy King and 55-year-old Cynthia King.

The shootings happened Thursday morning in the family's home in Spring Lake near Fort Bragg. The victims were taken to a hospital where they later died.

McDuffie said the suspect suffers from dementia, a brain disorder that can affect an individual's personality.

Bobby King is in custody. It is not known if he has an attorney.
