Man Wanted In S.C. Shooting In Custody In Md.

ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- A man wanted in the killing of his estranged wife in South Carolina cut his throat and wrist with a box cutter when Maryland State Police stopped his SUV after a brief pursuit on Interstate 95 Thursday, troopers said.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Maj. Rick Ollic told The Post and Courier of Charleston, South Carolina, that Darryl Flowers, 35, of Goose Creek, who survived his suicide attempt, was sought in Wednesday's fatal shooting of 36-year-old Tammy Flowers.

Ollic said Darryl Flowers is also accused of wounding his wife's two teenage nieces.

Maryland troopers saw an SUV with South Carolina tags that had been listed as stolen traveling north on Interstate 95 in Aberdeen, about 26 miles north of Baltimore. Troopers tried to get the vehicle to stop, but Flowers refused, police said.

Troopers deployed stop sticks and the came to a halt. Troopers said Flowers slashed his throat and wrist with a box cutter as officers approached.

I-95 was shut down for three hours, authorities said.

Police said Flowers is under guard and being treated at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.

WCBD-TV in South Carolina reports that once Flowers is released from the hospital, he faces extradition proceedings.
