Man Wanted In Deaths Of Wife, Stepdaughter May Be In D.C. Area

SANFORD, N.C. (AP) -- Court documents show a Sanford man charged in the deaths of his wife and stepdaughter may have fled with his teenage stepson to the Washington, D.C., area.

Multiple media outlets report a criminal complaint say 54-year-old Billy Jo McLean may have fled to the northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., or Maryland area. The criminal complaint says McLean is thought to have kidnapped his 17-year-old stepson, Tobias.

McLean is charged in the deaths of his wife, Calandra, and his 13-year-old stepdaughter, TaShonna. Firefighters found their bodies Monday in an apartment after a resident reported smelling a strong odor of gasoline.

Investigators say Calandra McLean's body was found bound with duct tape and her daughter's body was found in a bathtub. There was no sign either of them had been shot.
