Man Shot, Killed At Crowded Suitland Recreation Area

SUITLAND, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a man has been shot and killed outside the crowded Bradbury Recreation Center in Suitland, Maryland.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police Executive Lt. Brian Waters says the shooting occurred in front of the recreation center Sunday evening in what investigators believe was an isolated incident. The victim, 21-year-old J.R. Reid Franklin of Temple Hills, was found gravely wounded in the parking lot.

Waters says the park was full, with many adults and children in the area. It was unclear how many people were in the immediate vicinity of the shooting.

Authorities say they have talked to numerous witnesses and brought several people into custody for questioning.

No information about the suspect has been released.
