Man Sentenced In Fatal Crash After 9 Years On Lam In Kenya

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A fugitive captured in Kenya after being on the run for almost a decade has been sentenced in a drunken driving crash that killed a retired police officer in Montgomery County.

Prosecutors say Wilfred Olalo was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison. He pleaded guilty to homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol in 2006, but fled to Kenya before his sentencing. Olalo spent nearly nine years there before being captured earlier this year.

Authorities say Olalo was drunk in December 2004 when he caused three accidents in less than a half hour in Rockville, including one wreck that killed 76-year old Joseph O'Brien. The former homicide detective spent more than 20 years with D.C. police.
