Man Sentenced For Dragging Police Officer With Car

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been sentenced for dragging a Prince George's County Police officer with his car.

The Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office said in a statement that 27-year-old Danny Harvell was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison with all but four of those years suspended.

Harvell previously pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in the case.
Prosecutors say on July 15, 2015, an officer approached Harvell in a car in District Heights and smelled marijuana.

Prosecutors say when the officer reached into the car, Harvell drove off. Prosecutors say the officer was dragged more than 300 feet and thrown from the vehicle just before Harvell crashed into a tree.

Prosecutors say the officer, whose thigh was broken, had to undergo extensive surgery.
