Man Injured After Being Struck By Train In Maryland

CHEVERLY, Md. (AP) -- A man walking on railroad tracks in Prince George's County was injured when he was struck by a train.

A CSX spokesman says the man was injured Friday while walking on the tracks between John Hanson Highway and Eastern Avenue at about 2:50 p.m. Spokesman Rob Doolittle says walking on the tracks is "a highly dangerous activity, and modern freight trains are quieter than people might expect."

Authorities said the man was found under the train with severe trauma to his lower extremities and was taken to a hospital. It was not immediately clear why the man was on the tracks.

The train was traveling from New Jersey to Florida and was carrying paper, ceramic products and other consumer goods.
