Man Hospitalized After Attempting To Rescue Submerged Dog

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—A man was hospitalized on Wednesday morning after he attempted to rescue his dog that had fallen through the ice on the South River in Annapolis.

The incident happened just after 11:00 a.m. in the 700 block of Sonne Drive where a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever fell through the ice near the Bon Haven Community.

At the scene, police say they found a 71-year-old man in chest deep water searching for his dog.

Rescue crews pulled the man from the water due to the risk of hypothermia setting in.

He was treated and transported to an area hospital where he is expected to survive.

The dog was eventually recovered from the frigid water but did not survive, police said.
