Man Gets Life For Fatally Abusing His Disabled Daughter
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his daughter in a case that prompted reform of a Maryland child welfare law.
The Frederick News-Post (bit.ly/1nS1XOB) reports that 26-year-old Frankie Williams was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty in January to first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in the 2014 death of his 21-month-old daughter Anayah.
The girl was fatally beaten a few weeks after she'd been returned to her parents from foster care.
The case prompted a 2015 law called Anayah's Law that gave the state Department of Social Services more flexibility in deciding whether to recommend family reunification.
Anayah's mother Stephanie Ramirez pleaded guilty in April to first-degree child abuse resulting in death for failing to prevent the beating. She's serving a 20-year sentence.
