Man Gets 7 Years For Manslaughter In Ocean City

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for the death of his longtime friend in a fight outside an Ocean City bar.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that a judge gave 49-year-old George Nottingham the maximum sentence for manslaughter on Wednesday.

It was Nottingham's second trial on a manslaughter charge in the death of 39-year-old Mike Post of Ocean City. A trial last year ended in a hung jury.

Post died in January 2013. According to testimony, the two longtime friends argued in a bar after Post stole Nottingham's cellphone as a prank. Outside the bar, Nottingham took a swing at Post, who slipped on an icy patch of sidewalk, hit his head and died.

Nottingham apologized in court for his actions.
