Man Gets 25 Years For Distributing Ton Of Cocaine

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A man who federal prosecutors say distributed more than a ton of cocaine in Baltimore in two years has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Garnett Gilbert Smith, 44, of Baltimore had pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.

According to his plea agreement, Smith obtained large amounts of cocaine in California and had it shipped to Baltimore. Prosecutors say the cocaine was often hidden in vehicles loaded on car carriers.
