Man Gets 20 Years For Fatally Abusing 3-Month-Old Son

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatally abusing his 3-month-old son.

The Frederick News-Post  reports that 27-year-old Ryan Huffer of Jefferson was sentenced Wednesday in Frederick. The court suspended another 20 years.

A jury convicted Huffer in December of first- and second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault in the brain-injury death of Logan Luaces.

Huffer's attorney had argued that an unknown medical condition caused the boy's death.

Huffer told police he had tripped and fallen with the baby in his arms.

Prosecutors relied on medical evidence in arguing the child could only have died from an act of violence by Huffer.
