Man Gets 17-Year Term In Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Maryland man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison in the slaying of a man during an attempted robbery.

Twenty-year-old Rafael Douglas of Capitol Heights was sentenced Friday in Superior Court. He had pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder while armed.

Prosecutors say Douglas and another man tried to rob two workers making repairs to a building in southeast on May 28, 2010.

Authorities say a fight broke out and Douglas' accomplice shot 29-year-old Manuel De Jesus Sanchez in the chest, killing him.

Prosecutors say the gunman was later killed in an unrelated shooting.
