Man Gets 14 Years For Role In St. Mary's County Robberies

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a Maryland man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for his role in robberies at a jewelry store and pharmacy.

U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein's office says 50-year-old Abdelrahim Ayyad was also ordered to forfeit nearly $80,000.

Officials say Ayyad admitted that he drove to Washington DC in 2014 to pick up three other men, took them to a jewelry store in St. Mary's County and gave one of the men a gun. Authorities say two of the men that he picked up robbed the store, stealing jewelry worth more than $8,800, cash and a laptop.

Officials say Ayyad also waited in a car while two of the men stole pills at a pharmacy worth more than $64,000.
