Man Gets 13 Months In Prescription Fraud

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A pharmacy technician has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for submitting false claims for prescription refills.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jigar Patel of Columbia was also ordered to pay more than $100,000 in restitution at sentencing Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.

According to his plea agreement, Patel and others false claims to Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health benefit programs for refills, without patients' knowledge.

Prosecutors say medications not delivered to patients were placed back on the shelves at the pharmacy to be re-used to fill other prescriptions.
