Man Found Fatally Stabbed In Western Maryland City

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Allegany County Sheriff's Office says it's investigating the fatal stabbing of a Baltimore man who was found unconscious along state Route 51 just south of Cumberland.

The agency said in a statement that 25-year-old Rhyshon Smith died Wednesday night at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Authorities were alerted after someone called 911 from the vicinity of a Dairy Queen and then hung up. When a dispatcher called the number back, it was answered by a man who said he had been stabbed.

Police went to the scene and eventually found Smith unconscious and bleeding from a stab wound to the chest.
