Man Claiming Anthrax Exposure Drives Truck Onto National Mall

WASHINGTON (WJZ) — A man drove his pickup truck onto the grass at the National Mall on Tuesday. He told Capitol Police that he thought he had been exposed to anthrax.

The man allegedly saw the substance being spread on a field in Virginia. He told police he thought it was a threat, so he collected the substance in his vehicle to warn others.

The man was checked for exposure to anthrax, but test results were negative.

As a precaution, he and the officers who made contact with him went through a decontamination procedure.

Police say the man never threatened anyone and has been compliant throughout the incident.

Road closures remain in place.

Police and fire and EMS are working to make sure there is no threat to the public.
