Man Dies After Falling Into Icy Maryland Lake

BRANDYWINE, Md. (AP) -- Authorities in Prince George's County say a man died after he apparently fell into a frigid lake in Brandywine.

Officials say people saw the man enter the water off Chaddsford Lake Drive on Monday afternoon and called 911.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Gomez says a crew in cold-water rescue suits found the man about 15 feet from shore, but he had been underwater for about 50 minutes. Crews performed CPR, but authorities say the man died shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

Police officer Michael Owen says police are investigating the man's death. Based witnesses' accounts, he says police believe the man slipped into the water and they do not suspect foul play or that the man was attempting suicide.
