Man Dead After Being Hit In Columbia Parking Lot

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) -- Howard County Police say a man is dead after being struck by a car in the parking lot of the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.

Police say it happened Friday night at around 10:15 p.m. Police say the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was backing up from where his car was parked in a grass lot when he struck the man. Police identified the man as Erick Jon Girardin of Baltimore.

Police say the driver of the Sebring was not intoxicated at the time of the collision and that they are looking into the possibility that Girardin, 42, was lying on the ground just prior to the collision.

Police say they believe that both the driver and Girardin were attending the M-3 Rock Festival being held at the pavilion.
