Man Convicted Of Murder In Shooting Of Student

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Washington man has been convicted of first-degree felony murder in the shooting of a Howard University student during a robbery in Mount Rainier.

Michael Jordan, 20, was convicted Friday in a Prince George's County court. He faces a maximum term of life plus 35 years at sentencing March 20.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old Alonzo Guyton, who had been in the Marines and was a student at Howard, was walking to a friend's house when he was confronted at gunpoint. Authorities say Guyton got into a struggle with the gunman, Jordan got out of a car nearby and shot Guyton multiple times with an SKS assault rifle.

Lorenzo Carlton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the crime and is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 28.
