Man Convicted Of Murder In Death Of Hotel Manager

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A man who robbed a hotel employee at gunpoint and then killed the hotel's manager during a struggle was convicted of first-degree murder.

Twenty-two-year-old Deandre Weems of Washington was convicted by a Prince George's County jury Wednesday in the slaying of 27-year-old Jesse Chavez.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1TX3Fb0) that prosecutors say on Oct. 21, 2013, Weems went to the Clarion Hotel in Oxon Hill and robbed an employee at gunpoint.

Authorities say Chavez heard the employee scream, ran to the lobby and struggled with Weems. Chavez was shot in the chest, and Weems fled in a waiting car.
