Man Convicted In Death Of 6-Week-Old Son

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man has been convicted of child abuse in the death of his infant son.

Dion Ware was arrested in 2012 after the death of his 6-week-old son. A jury on Thursday convicted the now 21-year-old of child abuse but could not reach a verdict on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police said Ware initially told authorities that he noticed his son was having difficulty breathing and tried to administer CPR. He said he realized he was pushing too hard during CPR and ran outside to call for help. A medical examiner found the child died from blunt force trauma and Ware later admitted to hitting his son because the boy would not stop crying.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 10. Ware faces up to 30 years in prison.
