Man Climbs Out of Moving Truck Bed, is Hit, Killed

FAIR HILL, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say a man who walked away from a head-on car crash was killed when he climbed out of a moving pickup truck bed and was hit by a car in Cecil County.

The agency said in a news release that on Tuesday, 35-year-old Jason Owens of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, was traveling on Telegraph Road in Fair Hill.

Troopers say Owens' car crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a truck driven by 31-year-old Robert Simmons of Baltimore.

Police say Owens left the scene and got a ride in the back of a pickup truck. Investigators say Owens climbed out of the moving truck and was hit by a car driven by 71-year-old Louise Smith of New Castle, Delaware.

Owens was pronounced dead at the scene. Both crashes are under investigation.
