Man Charged With Trying To Kill Prince George's Officer

RIVERDALE, Md. (AP) -- Police say a man was charged with trying to kill a Prince George's County officer after his handgun misfired when he tried to shoot the officer.

Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Clay of Lanham has been charged with attempted murder and numerous other offenses after his confrontation with police on Thursday afternoon. He's being held without bond.

No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Clay had an open warrant for attempted murder stemming from a shooting in August.

Police say officers pulled over a car that Clay was riding in on Thursday afternoon. Police say Clay ran away when the car stopped. As he ran, police say Clay drew a handgun, pointed it at an officer and pulled the trigger. Police say the gun misfired. Clay was arrested shortly thereafter.
